Helping women to find employment with Smart Works

Last month was International Women's Day and as part of our celebrations we wanted to do something to help make a difference to one of the exceptional organisations dedicated to supporting women in the UK.

We decided to donate a spa day voucher to the UK charity Smart Works, a UK wide women’s unemployment charity which provides an interview dressing and coaching service to unemployed women. They held a 'Cycle for Smart Works' fundraising event for International Women's Day and our voucher was awarded to one of the top fundraisers. The winner of our prize raised an incredible £3,678!

The Smart Works service exists to help give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and change the trajectory of their lives. They are proud to say that after visiting Smart Works, 69% of their clients go on to get a job within a month, and 95% report feeling more confident.

The women who go to Smart Works are referred from Job Centres, mental health charities, women’s refuges, homeless shelters, the prison service, care service and youth organisations. These women are at the greatest risk of economic hardship and discrimination. The charity currently has 11 centres across the UK, located in London, Scotland, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Reading and Birmingham. In 2022, they helped 5,000 women and they are currently on a mission to double this to 10,000 a year by 2025. Community Fundraising Manager, Jennie, said: “By donating a voucher to our recent Cycle for Smart Works fundraising campaign, Spabreaks.com has helped us to raise over £150,000. This fundraising is absolutely crucial as we strive to double our impact and help 10,000 women a year across the UK. We need to expand our reach to fulfil our ultimate ambition: that any woman in need of our support should be able to find her way to Smart Works”.
