Spabreaks.com is pleased to announce that we have a new partnership with UK-based Charity Pump Aid.

Pump Aid works in some of the poorest parts of Africa to help people get access to safe and clean drinking water and improved sanitation. In Malawi Pump Aid has built over 2500 Elephant Pumps providing safe access to clean water for over 250,000 men women and children. Safe access is especially important for the women and young girls on whom the responsibility for collecting the water inevitably falls. Safe access means not having to spend hours every day walking to an unprotected well to bring back water likely to have been contaminated. Safe because the girls and women are no longer exposed to the dangers of a long journey to a remote well.

As the UK’s largest spa break specialist, Spabreaks.com sends away hundreds of women every month to spas all over the world. And now, as a result of this association with Pump Aid, Spabreaks will also be enabling hundreds of young girls to spend their time in education, rather than exposing themselves to the dangers of drinking unhealthy water and walking mile after mile to collect it. It seems the perfect match.

And Pump Aid is committed to the long term sustainability of its pumps, involving the community in every step of the process from site identification and build, to creating water point committees that are trained in the ongoing operation and maintenance of the pumps.
