Next door to the hotel and making the most of its original structure, the spa at The Varsity Hotel is a chic homogeny of white walls, exposed brickwork and wooden beams overlooking the river in the heart of Cambridge.

The Jacuzzi in particular takes in the best of the city views, and there is also a sauna, steam room and eight treatment rooms offering Aveda treatments from facials and massages to manicures and pedicures, but if you would rather – hotel guests can also have treatments in their rooms, or in the summer months, in the Fellows Garden.

Continuing the theme of the spa the hotel interiors combine rustic touches and ultra-modern features, with many of the suites boasting floor-to-ceiling glass windows that take in picturesque views of historic Cambridge.

The roof terrace garden with its champagne menu and comfy sofas is ideal for an aperitif or an afternoon coffee, while the River Bar Steakhouse and Grill continues the decorative theme or exposed surfaces making it a casual but cosy environment for the grill menu and decadent dessert classics.
