Five signs you and your partner need time together on a spa break

Even if you live with someone, it’s not quite the same as spending quality time with them. As life takes over, often we find that although we see someone every day, we haven’t necessarily had proper time together. Here are five signs that you and your partner need quality time together, and a spa break could be just the answer…

You’re not actually sure what your partner did this week

You see them in the morning, bleary eyed and heading out the door with their coffee in one hand and fumbling for their railcard in the other. You see them in the evening when you both mumble an automatic ‘how was your day?’ But if push came to shove, you actually have no idea what your partner’s week entailed, and you’re pretty sure they would say the same. Apparently, according to the Office for National Statistics, couples, on average, spend about 2 to 2.5 hours a day together. That includes weekends, and it’s largely spent watching TV, eating and doing housework. It’s not really the stuff of romance novels, is it?

You can’t remember the last time you did date night

Sitting in front of Love Island has its place, but does it really count as date night? When was the last time you got dressed up, took your time and really looked forward to time together? Not with friends, not with children, just the two of you, treating yourself and genuinely enjoying one another’s company? If you can’t remember, it’s been too long.

You put everyone else’s needs first

You put other peoples’ needs before your own, and, if you’re honest, before your partner’s as well. The kids, the friend who’s having a crisis, your parents. You’re looking after everyone, because life has a funny way of making that happen sometimes and you are super capable. But what about you? You used to rather enjoy talking to that person you sometimes see when you’re both cleaning your teeth in the morning. Wouldn’t it be nice to put your need for a really good catch up with them first for a change?

Someone asked how your partner is and you couldn’t really answer

They’re fine, you saw them today and they were fine… but did you actually have an opportunity to ask?

You don’t know when you will next have quality time together

Life happens and sometimes we have more time to spend with the people we love than others. That’s OK, but it’s becoming more of the rule than the exception. It’s not just that you can’t remember the last time you really sat down and spent quality time with your partner. You’re not actually sure when that’s likely to happen in the foreseeable future. Time to take control and put a plan in the diary…
