Next stop the Donnington Valley Hotel & Spa only I hour from London and 45 minutes from Heathrow. This is a four star plus but it should be a 5 star in my mind as it’s beautiful and offers impeccable service.
It has an 18m swimming pool, sauna, steam and aromatherapy rooms plus a state of the art gym and dance studio. The spa fulfils everyone’s needs and has a vast treatment menu offering everything from Reflexology to hopi ear candles! Experiences for all needs.
I experienced the hydrotherm massage which is great if you are pregnant or not very good at laying on your front or just fancy a different kind of back massage.
Its super relaxing as you are laid on a warm water bed and massaged underneath it, so the oils and the therapist can really work in to all of your knots .The oils penetrate deeper in to your skin via the heat. Overall this is an excellent treatment performed by an outstanding therapist.
Throughout my stay I was made to feel at ease and relaxed.
I then had my eye lashes tinted, it’s a quick treatment but really helps open up the eyes and is great if you swim a lot or are off on holiday as you don’t have to wear mascara all of time.
After my treatments I would have had more but they couldn’t fit me in as they are very popular so do make sure that you book earlier to make sure you get to have all of the pampering that you deserve.
Swim sauna steam and Jacuzzi …and another little swim .I made myself do ten lengths…as I know I always feel so good after. Swimming as you know is a great all rounder and not hard on the body. The water experiences and facilities here are all excellent and complement each other seamlessly.
So now I won’t feel so guilty that I drank an amazing bottle of wine, not all to myself as I had a friend with me, shared scallops to start with a delicious steak to follow. I couldn’t manage a desert although I would have loved one as the menu showcased the very best of British cuisine.
We retreated back to our room all relaxed and glowing and slept like babies!
In the morning after coffees and reading the papers in bed, we ate a lovely healthy breakfast and went back to the spa…swam another 10 lengths, well I had to really after all the food I ate last night and the croissants for breakfast …then we hit the steam and sauna again.
I could have stayed and chilled out for the rest of the day and maybe another night which I’d recommend, as we had such a lovely time !
Donnington Valley is also great for meetings and conferences. The restaurant has won lots of awards and as its the sister hotel to The Vineyard has an amazing wine menu.
