As a society we talk about health incessantly but without necessarily considering the implications of not having it, and for lots of people the choice is ultimately taken away.
It will come as no surprise that at Spabreaks.com health is something of hot topic, catering to those wanting to lose weight or train for an event at a bootcamp, to those looking to relax and unwind, and those looking for a little bit of respite from that malignant imposter – cancer – on our Recovery Retreats.
The thing is, health is for everyone – a glib comment that actually has multiple meanings – health is something we are all dealing with on a daily basis, good health is something that we can all aim for, and the effects of both good and bad health reach far beyond our own bodies.
With this in mind and as a mini ode to the upcoming Olympics, six members of our team volunteered (sort of) to do the British 10k London Run this summer with the help of Reboot bootcamp founder Mark Hooks. Each member of the team has different levels of running experience and reasons for taking up the challenge, but all have the common goals of being happy, healthy and most importantly raising money for Cancer Research!
Meet the Health for Health 10k team and find out why they signed up to the challenge!
Yummy Mummy, Product Manager Sarah Hill: There are lots of reasons I wanted to do the run – I have a little boy and you change a lot when you have a baby – you don’t have time to focus on your own health as much. This year I wanted to lose weight: I have already lost six pounds by changing my diet in January and even with that my mind is clearer and I have more energy. The 10k is giving me a goal to work towards; to feel better in the long term.
Jog On, Business Development Manager Aaron Taylor: For me it is all about raising money for charity – everyone knows someone
Diva Determination, Product Executive Danielle Deer: Well initially I didn’t have a choice; Bonnie told me I was doing it! … In all seriousness though, it is about the achievement and setting myself a goal that I can stick to – I have started going to the gym more this year, and the 10k is giving me the motivation to keep at it, especially because we are doing it for such a great cause.
Keen Bean, Editor Bonnie Friend: I am a huge fan of running but after a half marathon last year I really hurt my knee and could not run for three months. For me this is a good reminder of how fragile your health can be, and an opportunity to get back into it at the same time as contributing to a cause that is well within six degrees of separation of absolutely everyone.
Nimble Newbie, Customer Services Supervisor Cheryl Nelson: I am keen runner and have done races in the past, but as I just started back at work after having my little boy, now is a good time for a new challenge as well as an opportunity to spend time getting to know my new colleagues!
Running Riot, Sales Consultant and Team Leader Patrick Ukety: I do a lot of sport but I have never done a 10k race before – I am excited about the challenge, and working with the team and it’s for a great cause as well!
Check it out!
