ESPA Cellular Renewal Enzyme Facial

A pre-party spring clean for the skin to leave you glowing … Radisson Blu Guildford’s Senior Therapist, Sophie Marzolini talks about the facial with instant wow-factor …

What exactly is the ESPA Cellular Renewal Enzyme Facial?

Its’ a 90 minute facial starting with sensory testing - inhalations of spa freshers (toners) and massage oils that indicate which products will suit a client best on that day - it can be different every time based on your mood, which means that the treatment works on an emotional level as well as treating the skin.  We then do a facial cleanse with a clarisonic brush to really push the cleanser into the skin and remove dirt, so at this stage the skin will already start to look a lot brighter.  We then use a skin vision lamp to help the therapist pick up on congestion or dehydration before applying an enzyme peel which uses botanical extracts and pumpkin enzymes to really exfoliate the skin; after that we use the chosen oil to massage around the décolleté and face using lymphatic draining techniques to reduce puffiness.  Finally, we apply a face mask which uses concentrated seaweed extract, argan oil and menthol to plump, firm and brighten the skin.

Where does it come from?

The treatment is designed by ESPA, but where this one is different to most is with the use of the skin vision lamp.  I have worked as a therapist for 11 years, and I have never come across this particular treatment until coming here - other similar techniques are used in more clinical environments, but not brought to the client’s couch, so it is really unique.

What is it supposed to do?

All the products are ‘super active’ - which means that because they use very pure extracts they have a greater effect than normal on pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.  It also helps to reduce puffiness, and my favourite thing, both as a client and as a therapist is the immediate effect it has on improving skin radiance - it is the treatment to have 24 hours before a party to go with your LBD!

Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?

We pride ourselves on our consultations, where we really try to understand a client and their needs.  We want to know why you are here and what you want from your treatment.  We also add a hot foot cleanse at the start of each treatment to help the client to relax, and then take them to the relaxation area afterwards and offer them herbal teas and fruit.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

Try to avoid putting anything like make-up on your skin for around six hours after the treatment, as the products continue to work after you have left.  Water is also really underestimated - it’s so simple, but it really helps to flush out toxins.  We also recommend products after the treatment, and if you leave with anything I would recommend the Skin Radiance Mask to use once a week.

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

It’s great for anyone who’s concerned about pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, but also just if you want a spring clean for the skin.  As I said before, it has immediate results, so it’s great before a party - but give it 24 hours so that it gives the skin time to settle a little and you are not putting products straight on to it.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

It is probably best avoided by anyone with rosacea, and it isn’t recommended for anyone who has cancer - but it can depend on where it is, so it’s best to discuss it with your therapist beforehand.
