From the outside, Lansdowne Place hotel and Spa really doesn’t look like a standard hotel – it is a row of town houses characteristic of Brighton and Hove – it is discreet and only a stone’s throw from the beach.
A regency town house with high ceilings, the hotel is full of character with lots of original features combined with very contemporary colours and furnishings including accents of black and purple that add another dimension in terms of design and aesthetic interest.
The spa is in the basement of the building but is fully accessible as there is a lift down to it. Soft lighting sets the atmosphere, which is one of complete relaxation – there isn’t a pool or a gym (if it’s exercise you are after then a brisk walk – or run – along the beach is far superior to any treadmill), but there is a sauna and a steam room and the experience is very much lead by the treatments, which use Germaine de Cappuccini , O.P.I and bareMinerals products. It has a very intimate atmosphere, but is actually quite a large space, which means it never feels busy or crowded.
Breakfast is available at the hotel, and there is a also a lounge area complete with velvet sofas which makes for the ideal setting for a quintessentially English afternoon tea – a key highlight that previous guests attest to as a ‘must try’ part of the Lansdowne repertoire. Dinner however is an opportunity to explore Hove or to hop in the car and head over to Brighton.
Set back from the waterfront, the hotel is only a few seconds’ walk from the beach, but being in the Hove area rather than the centre of Brighton it is peaceful and quiet as well. The only downside is that parking can be a little tricky!
In terms of the rooms, which are beautifully designed with features including roll-top baths, the hotel is very much a couples’ retreat, providing a place to potter about by the sea, and thanks to the boutique character of the spa area, it is also a good option for small groups of girls looking for a little gentle relaxation.
– You will get the most out of your spa break if you stay overnight because the rooms have some particularly beautiful features that are worth seeing.
– Take a walk along the sea front – since it’s so close!
– Make time for afternoon tea, this is the perfect setting for it!
