Spotlight On … Blythswood Square Spa

First Impressions

Bythswood Square Spa is in the centre of Glasgow, but thanks to its very discreet location on the edge of a garden square, it doesn’t feel as though you are in the middle of a city.

The Hotel

Once the Clubhouse for The Royal Scottish Automobile Club (RSAC), while the outside of the hotel has the appearance of a Georgian terrace, inside it is extremely modern and reminiscent of the set of Moulin Rouge – it is quirky, ostentatious and every inch the boutique hotel.  Rooms continue the theme, and even the standard rooms are impressive enough that on visiting we originally thought that they were Deluxe Rooms!

The Spa

As you walk into the spa you are immediately hit by how tranquil it is.  The lights are very low – it is dark and seductive, and lit by candles all along the corridors.  The lounge area that greets you is open for teas, coffees and lunch and there is a space for manicures as well – perfect for girly groups to have a natter while enjoying their spa day.  Treatment rooms are huge, and when it comes to facilities there is a hydro-pool, and a complete thermal suite.  In keeping with the decadent design however, this is all about relaxation and there isn’t a gym – for exercise you will have to get out and explore the city!

The Restaurant

A former ballroom, the restaurant and the bar come as a pair – everything is silver, red and black.  Cocktails are a must at what is an extremely long bar space, but despite the sophisticate’s aesthetic touch it is a relaxed environment and you don’t have to dress up … unless you want to!

The Location

Being in the city centre you can walk to all the major attractions, shopping and surrounding bars and restaurants, but thanks to the garden immediately outside the entrance there is a sense of distance and escapism from the urban buzz.

The Verdict

The design and five-star service at the hotel make it a very romantic city destination, while the layout in the spa and proximity to city attractions means girly group getaways will thoroughly enjoy it as well!  It is no surprise Blythswood Square is a favourite amongst celebrities (we are too polite to say who) – it is the place to go to be treated like a star.

Top Tips

– The mark of a proper spa is one where you don’t have to change out of your robe all day if you don’t want to – and that is the case here, so enjoy it!

– Since you are so close to everything Glasgow has to offer, why not turn your break into a weekend of all sorts of therapies, with a little shopping as well!

– Don’t take the car – it’s easy to find using public transport, and as with any city, parking is a little tricky!
