As her cycling training increases, a spa break becomes ever more important for our Accessible Spas ambassador, Claire Lomas, who visited Hilton at St George’s Park and discovered a new love for Lava Shell massages?
When I first arrived, I thought the spa would be very busy because there were so many cars outside. However, it turned out that the hotel hosts a number of conferences, so it didn’t impact the spa at all, and we continued inside to receive friendly welcome, in what was a very informal environment.
The spa is fairly basic but lovely nonetheless. It’s very clean and peaceful, so if you are in need of a chance to switch off and sit by the pool fantasising that you own the place, then this is the place to go! There is also a sauna and steam room, which again were very quiet.
A Lava Shell massage has now become my new favourite spa treatment. The warmth from the shells really helps to relax your muscles, which was just what I needed after lots of hand cycling over the past few weeks. The treatment area is roomy and my therapist, Sarah, was great! It was a perfect end to a relaxing day!
We had a light lunch as part of our spa package, which came as standard, but that didn’t matter as it was one of the tastiest lunches I have ever had!
Hilton at St George’s Park is very easy to find and has loads of parking. It is a huge building given all its other hotel and conference components, but the spa was a prominent feature and we could park very close by which was extremely helpful.
The spa is very accessible for wheelchair users. The changing rooms are spacious and clean like the rest of the spa, and although some of the other spas I have been to have more by way of facilities in terms of thermal suites, this is perfect if you just want to chill out away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. It felt like I owned it!
– Make use of the sun loungers around the pool: they are seriously comfortable! (I spent enough time lying on one and didn’t want to move!)
– Book a spa package with lunch – it’s healthy and tasty; you won’t be disappointed.
– Make sure you treat yourself to a massage (or your favourite treatment). The therapists are great and the heated couches are fantastic. I can guarantee you will leave feeling 100% relaxed.
