From the outside you could be forgiven for thinking that Amida Spa Hampton was just a gym, as it is situated in a David Lloyd centre. However, once you are in the spa area, the atmosphere completely changes and you are in a beautiful spa location.
It’s an over 18s spa area, which is really nice as it does sit separately to the leisure pool and the gym area. Facilities are extensive, with two huge hydro pools with jets to help massage out those knots. There are also six heated loungers that sit between the two pools, breaking up the area and making for a relaxing space. Little details have been attended to, with beautiful loungers you can really settle in to, there is also a sauna, sanarium, steam room, and an outdoor pool, which is wonderful as the weather is getting warmer! The relaxation room is reserved predominantly for people who have had a treatment because it can get a little busy at the weekend; there are five beds that are really cosy, perfect for an post-treatment snooze!
The treatments use Aromatherapy Associates, Rodial (known as the ‘glamorous alternative to surgery’) and Australia’s Alpha-H products, and include everything from facial peels, scrubs, and wraps to the more elaborately named Rodial boob jobs – which are not quite as scary as they sound!
The restaurant has a separate area for anyone on a spa day and is again just for anyone over the age of 18. As the leisure area does allow families and children, this provides a welcome escape from any noise, while the menu offers light bites suited to a day of healthy pampering.
The spa is in the middle of a residential area so it’s very easy to get to from London – it’s about an hour by car, and parking is easy.
It isn’t what you would imagine from a spa within a leisure complex, it has a lot to offer. The facilities make it ideal for small groups of girls looking for some quality time together because there really is a lot to do. It would also suit couples, not because it is especially romantic, but because it has a small, intimate feel to it.
– For peace and quiet make sure you have lunch in the area designated for spa guests as at weekends in particular there can be quite a lot of children using the leisure areas.
– If the weather permits, take a dip in the outdoor pool to add another dimension to your swim.
– Definitely have a treatment and settle down into the relaxation lounge for a bit of a doze afterwards – we would happily go to sleep there!
