Why it works … Elemis Body Sculpting Colon Therapy

Designed by Elemis to help reduce cellulite and water retention, Trenython Manor in Cornwall explains why Body Sculpting Colon Therapy is just what you need whether you are going on holiday or have a special occasion this summer!

What exactly is Elemis Body Sculpting Colon Therapy?

It’s a 50 min treatment, and is essentially a massage for the thighs and stomach.  We always start with an Elemis welcome touch to start, and then do a body brush to boost circulation and exfoliate the skin.  We then do massage on the whole leg, but focusing on the thighs using hacking and pummelling motions to break down the fatty bits on the thighs.  This starts on the back of the body, followed by the front.  We then apply a fennel mask, which has a lovely strong smell, and that stays on for 10 minutes while we massage the stomach, working on the colon to detoxify the body and flush out bacteria.  After that we peel off the mask and wipe down the skin with hot mitts before applying a firming cream to finish the treatment.

Where does it come from?

It’s an Elemis treatment, and you really notice a difference afterwards!  We had a lady who had it before her wedding and she saw a significant reduction in water retention on her thighs beforehand.  Of course if you have a series of treatments you see a greater improvement.

What is it supposed to do?

It helps with water retention, reduction of cellulite, and is very detoxifying, aiming to break down fatty deposits.  It is more of an invigorating and stimulating massage than a relaxing one.

Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?

People really notice a difference if they have three or four treatments over a 28 day period.  The body brushing is also a really important part that you can carry on yourself in between treatments.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

Drink lots of water and use a body brush at home as it exfoliates the skin and boosts circulation.  Also go for walks and try to maintain a healthy diet!

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

It’s great for brides, or if you have a special occasion coming up, or if you just have problems with circulation or cellulite, but it’s really for anyone who wants to decongest!  People often have it before they go on holiday.  Lots of people are wary of it because of the name, but it’s a lovely treatment!

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

Anyone with varicose veins should avoid it because of the vigorous movements. If you have leg injuries, are pregnant, or have cancer or a serious illness it is best avoided as well.
