The first spa in Ireland to offer ESPA’s ultimate facial, The Europe Resort and Hotel explains what makes this treatment unique …
What exactly is the Ultimate ESPA Life Stage Facial?
It’s a 90-minute treatment, including a thorough skin analysis using a wood lamp to show what type of skin the guest has. We follow that with products suited to the guest, starting with a brush cleanse and steam, then a double mask application – the first is a skin radiance mask combined with ESPA’s Age Defying Facial Massage using manual lifting and firming techniques. Then the second mask is the Ultimate Professional Lifting and Soothing Peel-Off Mask. Finally, the guest has a choice of a foot, hand, or shoulder massage.
Where does it come from?
It is an ESPA treatment, and what makes it different is that we are using the Life Stage product’s Net 8 Serum, which has natural encapsulation technology that has only previously been used in the pharmaceutical industry, never on the home skincare market. It works like a tablet would; releasing the product over eight hours into the epidermis. All ESPA facials and products were designed by Sue Harmsworth at their UK factory in Somerset, but this one takes all the best aspects of their products and put them into one facial. At the moment only 10 spas offer this facial, and we were the first in Ireland to have it – it isn’t even on our menu yet and it’s our most booked facial, it’s just word of mouth because it’s a fantastic massage; it almost feels like a body treatment as well because there are so many different components.
What is it supposed to do?
The facial targets the biological age of the skin not the chronological age; it’s an ‘age enhancing’ product. It is designed to boost the skin, increase hydration and firmness, and make it the best it can be for now. It also targets age spots and pigmentation – the serum works on everything and treats the skin that you have. There are 10 active ingredients in it.
Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?
We do recommend using the spa facilities beforehand, and using ESPA’s aftercare products in the life stage range afterwards.
Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?
It is recommended for women aged 45 years and over, but what we would do with someone younger is use the skin vision lamp and then decide whether they are suitable for it, and if not we would do an Age-Defyer Facial instead.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?
Anyone with a serious illness such as cancer is best to avoid it, but when you are recovering from being ill it gives you a really good boost.
