As her debut single launches this week, rising star and supporter of our upcoming #bekindtoyou Women’s Wellness Week, Lydia Baylis, talks about inspiration, why she admires her mum, and the treatment she most wants to try!
What’s your average day like?
I try to run in the morning (although, not every morning!), then I go to the studio for about 10am and do some writing and recording before having lunch with the guys I work with. Afternoons are generally taken up with meetings or more recording until around 7.30pm. In the evenings, I will usually go and see friends, maybe go to the pub.
You’re have just released your first single, Mirrors, what is it about?
It was actually based on a platonic friendship from when I was about 13, with a girl at school, which was quite controlling. Looking back on it I wanted to explore that idea of power in relationships, and I think that can be applied to friendships as well as romantically. Hopefully the song is relevant to both.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
Performing live … when it’s all going right! That’s definitely the best bit! It’s such a nerve-wracking experience that if you didn’t enjoy it then it would be very difficult!
What were you doing before?
Working as a nanny, and I have also had lots of jobs waitressing and handing out flyers … I did that in an area near home for a while and you always seem to bump into people you would rather not!
Do you have a role model?
It’s a cliché, but my mother is an amazing woman. She is very different to me and I spent a lot of my teenage years not appreciating how incredible she is.
What’s your idea of the perfect day of relaxation?
Just sitting and reading a book without feeling guilty about it and thinking I should be doing something else.
Is there a spa treatment you would like to try?
I have never had a facial, and would LOVE to have one! I get my nails done sometimes and that always makes you feel wonderful.
What’s your desert island beauty product?
It’s a bit boring, but I have really difficult hair, so particularly when I go away I can’t manage without some kind of anti-drying conditioner!
Top Tip for feeling your best on a hectic schedule?
A little make up and a pair of high heels – the extra height seems to make the world of difference!
Complete this sentence: A beautiful woman is … confident!
What are you going to do this week to #bekindtoyou?
I’m going to lie in on Sunday and read my book … without feeling guilty about it!
