It’s a 90-minute treatment inspired by Ku-Nye, which is a traditional practice to Tibetan medicine originating around 4000 years ago. ‘Ku’ means to ‘apply’ so one technique is known as ‘buttering’; basically pushing products into the skin, while ‘Nye’ refers to the actual massage and using different techniques such as pressure on specific spots and pushing on tendons; it’s a bit like meditating. The sound bit comes from Singing Balls of which there are three, and we strike each one at different times in treatment. The sound is thought to bring enlightenment by connecting mind, soul and spirit … the vibrations from the balls can put vibrations into the cells – the healthier ones vibrate at a higher frequency and promote healing from within.
It was created by Italian brand, [Comfort Zone], and at the moment we are the only spa in the UK that offers this particular treatment with our therapists trained by their head trainer in Italy.
It helps to improve vitality, reduce tension, Detox, reduce muscular aches and pains, anxiety, help with sleep problems, and promotes general healing. The benefits continue for 72 hours after treatment thanks to the vibrations from the Singing Bells.
We do our foot soak at the beginning while we are going through the consultation. The client has their feet in warm soapy water and we cleanse the feet, which helps to introduce them to touch. We also adapt the treatment to particular clients and what their individual concerns.
Afterwards we recommend going through to our sleep retreat where there are sound wave beds, which feel like vibrations; medical research shows that they promote relaxation and we will often find clients snuggled up and fast asleep in there after a treatment.
It’s just such a lovely treatment to have, it’s easily adaptable, and it’s really nurturing and can make you feel a bit more like yourself again. It provides space to let go a little of everything that’s going on.
There aren’t any contraindications because we can adapt it although we wouldn’t recommend it for pregnant ladies.
