Steeped in history and providing an escape from the buzz of city life, Spabreaks.com’s Ellen O’Connor visits The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin!
As soon as you arrive at The Shelbourne Hotel, you are greeted by a smartly dressed doorman and transported to the opulence of the 19th century. The hotel has been proudly operating since 1824 and even has its over mini museum in the lobby which is well worth a look!
The spa is located in a converted Georgian townhouse which was only opened in November 2012. Its relaxation lounge looks out onto St Stephen’s Green, and really takes you away from the busy streets of Dublin.
I had the PaniPuri 90-minute massage which was really different from other massages I’ve had as it wasn’t so focused on the essential oils used but instead concentrated on the strokes and movements of the muscles. It’s a full body treatment from the balls of your feet to the top of your neck and all the way to your fingers … lush!!!
It is smack bang in the middle of Dublin, close to the shopping districts of St Stephen’s Green and Grafton Street, as well as the famous Temple Bar area.
It has gorgeous dining booths for secluded dining, or larger areas for bigger groups. The menu highlights the best of Irish produce, and there is also a famous lounge which has a spectacular afternoon tea served every day, or more informal dinner options.
I think The Shelbourne Hotel is at its best as a romantic destination for couples on a special weekend away, or for a shopping weekend with the girls. Either way it’s definitely a luxury destination!
– Take time to look at the mini museum in the lobby.
– Make sure you take your time in the relaxation lounge and really chill out.
– Take advantage of the location and see the sites while in Dublin city centre!
