Why it works … Men’s Grooming Day

For all those men in the city, Amida Spa Farnham explains why their Men’s Grooming Day will make sure you scrub up well!

men-relax

What exactly is the Men’s Grooming Day?

It’s a 90-minute experience combining the Alpha-H detoxifying back therapy and an Aromatherapy Associates Ultimate Experience.  We do a smell test to choose the aromatherapy oil that will benefit the client the most during the massage and treatment, so if you are very stressed from work then perhaps you have frankincense, lavender or camomile to help you to relax.  In terms of the massage itself, it works on the meridians of the body through energy points, muscle release, and improving circulation.  We can also on focus on specific areas of tension if clients want us to, but it is a full body treatment.   The back therapy is like a facial for your back – it has two types of exfoliation; a glycolic which re-hydrates the skin and softens it so that the second phase removes all the dead skin cells.  We then do extractions, add a mask, and moisturise, which comprises about 25 minutes of the treatment.

Where does it come from?

We have combined an Alpha-H treatment with one from Aromatherapy Associates.  Alpha-H is Australian and is really results driven.  It was created by a lady who was suffering from acne.  She started with one little product called Liquid Gold and has transformed the brand – it’s produced really amazing results.  The whole reason we call it an experience is because we add in the smell test and chakra work from the Aromatherapy Associates principles; it’s a very natural brand that focuses on being holistic and therefore turns the combined experience from a prescriptive treatment into a relaxing one that the client can really enjoy.

What is it supposed to do?

It is designed to help the client relax, improve general wellbeing, de-stress, detoxify, and make sure that men walk out with the feel-good factor.  It also gives your back a really good scrub so it’s great for helping with breakouts.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

I always recommend using the wet spa facilities before the treatment rather than afterwards so that you don’t wash the products off.  Come in an hour or so beforehand so your muscles are warm enough to be worked a little deeper in the massage, it also helps with the Detox element.  Afterwards just drink a lot of water and take it easy for the rest of the day.

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

The Alpha-H treatment is particularly important because we neglect our backs, and particularly for men who work out a lot or are walking around in the city and might suffer outbreaks on their backs.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

Anyone who is pregnant; certain oils affect anyone with epilepsy so make your therapist aware so that alternatives can be used; mention any medication especially new medication that you are taking, and serious illnesses including cancer may be advised against it unless the doctor has given the all clear.
