The best way to do this is by turning it into a spa ritual, which is something spas do extremely well. The key however, is to find the right one for you (and the person you may or may not choose to share it with) … so, here’s what we suggest …
For Couples: Lifehouse Spa and Hotel
This is a place that’s great for couples in any context because with its proliferation of glass and slate grey design it is chic and avoids the pitfalls of being ‘pink and fluffy’. More to the point however, their Soulmates Spa Break provides a three course dinner, bed and breakfast, champagne and strawberries (either in room on arrival or in the Sleep Pod on request), a Hidden Sanctuary experience for two (that’s a two hour 55-minute spa experience to you and me), and a dedicated organiser for bespoke requests (that’s a hint for men thinking it might be time to pop the question, in case you hadn’t spotted it), use of the thermal spa facilities and fitness classes, and access to the historic gardens (I highly recommend you book a tour, they are beyond beautiful).
For Friends: Imagine Spa Thames Valley
Everything at Imagine Spa Thames Valley revolves around the fire and ice facilities – there is a specific order to this that you can ask to be shown to get the most out of it. The whole thing is centred around the hydrotherapy pool –which is suitable for chatting, lounging, basking, (and interviewing as we found out with Body Gossip), and is decidedly sociable truth be told, not to mention the perfect prep for your treatments. Muscles loosened and pores opened, a facial or massage will be all the more beneficial after a stint here, and having whiled away plenty of time chatting to friends, it will come just in time for you to have an hour or so to yourself. We suggest you book the Spa Party Package for a minimum of five guests and to get the full experience.
Just for You: St Pancras Spa
Small and perfectly formed, St Pancras Spa operates on the idea of a journey, which of course is ideal given its location at the famed station. It is themed around the concept of a 19th century woman going on a variety of exotic travelling experiences from Asia to Africa and India, and while the environment is cosy and dreamy enough to send you off into your own imagination, the treatments form the most glorious part of the whole day. Whether you have an hour (which you can divide as you wish – a full 60 minutes of one treatment, or 30 minutes of one and half an hour of another), or one of their complete ‘Tickets to Tranquility’ featuring multiple treatments (up to 180 minutes of scrubs, wraps, facials and massages inspired by different parts of the world) – this is an experience that you want to keep all to yourself.
