Blending local massage techniques and botanical oils, Heritage Awali Golf and Spa Resort talks about the massage inspired by the wisdom of ancient healing techniques combined within good old Mauritian know-how.
What is exactly the Signature Mauritian Massage?
The Mauritian Massage is a 75-minute treatment and is an original massage using different techniques from Asia, Africa, India, and Europe. It starts with a Foot Bath Ritual featuring mineral salts and some drops of essential oil to relax the feet and stimulate the blood circulation. Then, to start the full process of relaxation, a good Indian head massage with essential oils is done followed by shiatsu points on the face. Then the back, neck, and shoulder areas are worked at the same time to bring full relaxation of both mind and body while the guest is still sitting. Once the guest lies down on the couch, the therapist start the full body massage using the different techniques to relax, drain, relieve and revitalise. Focus areas of the massage are the back, neck, and shoulders (which are worked twice), and at the same time having a draining effect on the legs.
Where does it come from?
This massage is derived from the local Mauritian culture and been created specifically by the Seven Colours Spa, embodying our philosophies.
What is it supposed to do?
It brings a total relaxation to both the mind and body, helps to eliminate toxins, and release stiffness in the muscles. It is, in itself, a revitalising and a regenerating massage.
Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?
The power of touch and devoted attention are the guiding principles, allowing guests to find a deep state of harmony. Botanicals, aromatherapy, and energetic application are designed to enhance the individual’s personal preferences and requirements. Furthermore, calm music adds a soothing atmosphere.
Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?
Before the treatment, we advise clients use the steam room and the sauna which will help the muscles to relax, open the pores to absorb products more effectively, and leave the skin hydrated and nourished. After the massage, a wellness lifestyle is encouraged through educational programs whereby patrons take the curative benefits of wellbeing into the broader context of their lives to encourage health and self-nurturing. There is also a range of recommended products available.
Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?
Since this massage is a philosophy that awakens consciousness through harmonising the body and mind, thus creating an awareness of wellness, we can adapt it for individual needs.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?
It isn’t a treatment for pregnant ladies as it has a draining effect, and anyone with a serious illness or who has recently had surgery should seek medical advice first.
