Tried and Tested: Aveda at The Scotsman

Sea Senses Body

Taking a day away from her hectic schedule as a showbiz reporter, novelist, and new mum, Martel Maxwell tests out the Aveda product line at The Scotsman!

What does the Aveda Stress Relief Massage involve?

My 45 minute stress relief massage kicked off with my therapist asking if I had any special requirements and filling out a form with medical information. I requested a firm massage as my shoulders are exceptionally tight and I don’t like the feather-touch approach. I want to feel it! And I did. Louise (pretty sure it was Louise) got the firmness just right and really worked on the knots and tension. The massage covered most of my body and ended in a wonderful foot then head massage.

What did you like or dislike about it?

What’s not to like? My therapist was particularly good. She was confident, knowledgeable, and listened to what I wanted and needed. The Aveda products smelt divine and relaxing. The location is very central in Edinburgh, near Waverley Train Station which is really handy.  Before your treatment you can have a swim, which adds to the relaxation. The only thing I disliked was the time, as I never wanted it to end. Then again, it could have lasted three hours and I’d still want more. There was a lovely relaxation room with teas and magazines to unwind in afterwards as well, so do leave yourself time to enjoy the complete experience.

Did it achieve the right results?

The massage is supposed to relax you and it really does. Just a few minutes into the treatment I smiled to myself as I knew already this was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. It was meant to relax but also really work on the tight muscles, so it wasn’t always super-relaxing because those knots hurt. But the desired effect – to walk out feeling better – was absolutely achieved.

Who you would recommend it for?

Anyone! Really, who doesn’t have a need – even if it’s slight – for a stress-busting massage? It’s particularly effective for anyone who spends hours at a computer and needs some fairy dust on those tense shoulders and back. If you like Aveda products, you’ll be in your element. It’s a great present and men would love it too. My top tip would be to book in for as long as possible – there’s an option to have a full hour and possibly even more. It’s worth it!
