On a weekend getaway to Ireland, Spabreaker, Zerrin, headed to Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Spa in County Meath for some serious pampering …
In short, it’s beautiful. Despite being only 30 minutes by car from Dublin city centre there is a real sense of remoteness thanks to the surrounding grounds, which really set the tone for your stay.
The hotel itself is contemporary and can be quite busy at times as it’s a real attraction for people getting out of the city and that creates a happy buzz throughout. Rooms continue the contemporary vibe and as I was staying in a suite, mine had three beds in it so it’s great for groups! My room also had a view of the grounds which was made all the more enjoyable as I tucked into a complementary fruit and chocolate platter on arrival.
The spa is simply gorgeous. There is a hydro pool at the centre surrounded by a sauna, two steam rooms, two laconiums, a relaxation area, and 18 treatment rooms. It is a peaceful environment that gives the impression that you have it almost to yourself, but given that there are two of everything even if it was full to the brim you would still have oodles of space! One of my favourite things about the spa is that they use VOYA product, which are formulated in Ireland using a seaweed base harvested from the coast. I had a full body massage and next time I am going back for the facial!
I ate in the bar because, to be frank, the rugby was on and I wanted to watch it! The food there is hearty, pub food, and I felt very comfortable tucking in on my own. There were families, couples, and solo travellers enjoying it all in happy harmony. For more formal occasions there is also The Ivy, which is designed for dressing up and having a seriously elegant evening – just remember to make a reservation!
As I mentioned, it’s only a 30 minute drive from Dublin and 20 minutes from the airport but it still has this wonderful sense of being in the middle of nowhere thanks to the surrounding grounds. It’s also an ideal location for exploring the area including the site of the Battle of Boyne, Bective Abbey, and Trim Castle.
Much as everyone says this about any venue they have adored, it really is one for everybody. There were families, couples, single travellers, and groups of girls all enjoying what Dunboyne Castle has to offer simply because it is convenient, lovely, and there are so many things to do!
Take some time to explore the surrounding area – perhaps even book a tour of the city.
Definitely have a spa treatment or two, and make sure it’s at least an hour – 30 minutes just isn’t enough!
Upgrade your room to a suite for special occasions!
