Spotlight On … Foxhills

From sitting in the hot tub under the stars to customer service where nothing was too much trouble, Spabreaker, Kirsten Locke, gets the Foxhills treatment!

First Impressions

My first views of the house and grounds were impressive; it helped that it was a beautiful sunny day, but what added to it was the attitude of staff once we were in the door, who were consistently helpful and friendly.

The Hotel

The house itself was lovely, though due to the refurbishment at the time we only went to the bar which was a traditional and comfortable space in which to sit back and enjoy our champagne.  Our rooms were nice and spacious if a little too warm at night, so make sure your windows are open! We also joined in an hour’s yoga class on Sunday morning which was a relaxing treat and the facilities are so numerous that in summer it would be great to play tennis and use the outdoors pools as well.

The Spa

It was fabulous! Everything you could expect from a spa and more. I was a big fan of the outside spa garden from freezing plunge pool, to the, sauna and hot tub under the stars!  All of our group loved our hammam treatment which we went in three at a time, sitting back with our special soap, exfoliating, and all the time chatting away. Some of the girls said their skin had never looked so shiny and healthy … just what we wanted!

The Treatment 

We had a mixture of facials and massages included in our packages but we all managed to upgrade them to longer treatments. This was a really flexible and helpful bonus.  One of the girls said her acupuncture was exceptional!

The Restaurant

One of my friends had very particular dietary requirements and she was really impressed that the hotel and restaurant staff were extremely accommodating and had made a real effort with her needs. They spoke to her several times in advance and checked she was happy with what they had planned and even printed her out a special menu for the table, she was particularly touched by the effort they went to.  We all commented how good the food was in the other restaurants, and how friendly and helpful all the staff were in both in XIX, the Summerhouse, and the hotel bar.

The Location

The location is very pretty.  We enjoyed a walk around the grounds on the Sunday morning and could happily have spent more time walking around. We also had to travel from various parts of the south so it was really convenient for lots of transport needs.

The Verdict

I thought Foxhills was very well run, particularly given its size, with exceptional staff and service throughout. It’s a great place for a spa break with friends or family. There was a huge selection of activities to do and a great spa. I would certainly recommend Foxhills to friends and family. Also geographically it was nice and central for a group of us to get to from different parts of the south.
