It’s Spabreaks.com’s Men’s MOT Week coming up in June, so just when do you need a break? We asked director/blogger, Jon Hamblin …
What do you do?
By day, I’m the director of successful app company, Big Ideas Digital, where we make popular casual games like Doctor Who: Say What You See. By night I write ‘The Things I’ve Done To Impress Women’, a blog all about the many unsuccessful ways that I’ve tried to impress women. If you’ve ever wanted to read about someone whose life appears to be an extremely poorly-written sitcom, then this is the blog for you.
What makes you stressed?
Obviously, like most people I have a stressful day job, and as anyone who’s ever worked in software development knows, there’s nothing more stressful than releasing a game that has an undiscovered bug in it that reduces people’s phones to jelly. It turns out they get quite angry at you. Luckily this has only happened to us once, but the fear is constant. Relationships can also be stressful too, and I’ve certainly had my share of stressful moments on dates – I once had a girl go into anaphylactic shock in the middle of a meal, and that certainly got the old ticker going. I’m 36 now though, and I certainly have to start taking better care of myself – a couple of years ago (and again more recently) I had some heart troubles, and it makes you incredibly aware of how fragile your body is, and just how important it is to make sure you unwind completely from time to time.
What are you doing about it this week and why?
Recently I’ve quit smoking and drinking (doctor’s orders), and I’m starting to look at exercise and diet now. Sadly it turns out that sauntering to the fridge to get a can of coke does not count on either front. I’m also going to try and take more holidays – all work and no play not only makes you dull – it can also damage your health. Maybe it’s time for a spa break?
