A very real concern among men is the fear of going grey that comes with aging process. Luckily, we have Carmelo Guastella, artistic barber and men’s grooming expert, to help us navigate the complicated world of going grey stylishly.
Let’s be honest for most men going grey is a concern makes men feel unhappy and in today’s world he wants to keep his appearance, the mistake they could make here is to cover up every single grey hair and look awkward or as if they have just brought a new wig, my advice here is to be subtle when using hair colour.
The secret here is to go grey in style, it’s not always a bad thing to go grey and many celebrities embrace their grey hairs with some small help of colour but without being visible or evident, my advice is to be subtle with hair colour. It’s about going back to the office and nobody noticing you have had a colour. Celebrities that embrace grey hair, George Clooney, Tom Jones, Martin Kemp, Gary Lineker… even the celebrities that I have mentioned have some small colour help enhance the grey hairs but because the results are so natural it’s difficult to spot.
If you are completely grey don’t bother with any colour just use a purple shampoo and conditioner (Aveda Blu Malva Shampoo and Blu Malva conditioner) Adds silvery brightness to grey hair, and neutralizes yellowish tones . Also make sure you look after your skin with facials and quality skin care products to give you a healthy glow and why not use a self-tan, pale skin does not go well with grey hair.
If you like to opt for color let’s say you have 40-60% grey I use a semi-permanent color to lower the % of grey without nobody realizing you had a color done. My advice is to not go for the full permanent color it just doesn’t look natural.
My recommendation to Men is to never get into a situation where all’over colour coverage is needed every 2-3 weeks as the grey re growth can be seen, this is not good for your image and your hair.
About hair colour on men. I colour hair and my rule is to be subtle, I would never colour men’s hair totally if they have more than 80% grey hair but I would use some subtle techniques. I prefer to colour hair when the ration of grey hair is below 60% and even then I would use my special technique to make it look subtle leaving a % of grey hair to make this look natural.
