It probably implies that I am starting to take on more of the characteristics of my grandfather than I would care to admit, but spending time in the garden is possibly one of the nicest ways to enjoy summer afternoon as far as I am aware. Well, that and a good cup of tea, but that’s a discussion for another day. So here are a few of our summer favourites that I highly suggest pottering around while the sun is shining … or even if it rains if truth be told!
Ockenden Manor, East Sussex
Surrounding an Elizabethan manor house, the walled garden is a little treasure to explore before heading into the eco spa!
The Grove, Hertfordshire
A garden come art exhibition, the perfectly manicured grounds at The Grove also play home to an ever changing array of art installations – spa and culture all in one place!
A regal mansion, Cliveden is surrounded by 376 acres of National Trust gardens, so you know they are going to be good!
Castlemartyr Resort, County Cork
In amongst the many things you need to make time for at this hotel (the food and the ESPA spa being a case in point), do not forget to take some time to enjoy this …
Swinton Park, North Yorkshire
If you are feeling really energetic then you can enjoy the 200 acres of grounds by heading out on one of the running tracks that have been laid out … or don’t, whatever you fancy.
