First Impressions
Lough Eske Castle has all the makings of a fairytale escape. For starters it is a castle, all gothic mouldings and romantic towers, which sets the tone for a seriously romantic escape, and that’s just for starters.
The Hotel
With a history dating back to the 1400s, Lough Eske Castle is inextricably linked with Donegal’s character and founding fathers. Having been renovated in 2007 it is now a luxury hotel that combines a strong sense of its past, thanks to the retention of numerous original features, with all the bells and whistles of a world class hotel.
The Spa
There is more to relaxation at Lough Eske than just the spa, although it’s a pretty wonderful place to start. Spa Solis is in a dedicated building in the hotel grounds and has a gym, pool, jet bath, sauna, steam room, ice fountain, sanarium, experience showers, infinity pool, and seven treatment rooms including two couple’s suites along with treatments using the Aromatherapy Associates product. Beyond that however, the grounds are a wealth of experiences such as horse riding, fishing, surfing, golf, and simply enjoying the great outdoors.
The Restaurant
Quality produce is a vital part of the culinary experience in both Cedars Grill Restaurant, and the Gallery and Oak Bars. Combined with impeccable hospitality, contemporary interiors and views of the grounds, it’s a pretty tricky set up to beat!
The Location
Just outside Donegal Town, the hotel is situated in a lakeside estate that sets the scene from almost every part of the hotel.
The Verdict
Without question, Lough Eske Castle is a romantic escape; five star service and an ingrained history alongside elegant contemporary design. Make sure you come for the whole weekend to get the most out of it!
