Just getting back to the day job of running Yawn – after a relaxing (and always too short) break with the family over half term. Lots to catch up on …
Rarely from me! I have always had a strong vision for what Yawn could be – a beautiful brand, all about women’s relaxation, focused on pyjamas initially. I also really believe in the power of great design. However, I am not a designer and am very blessed to be working with fantastic people across the board, from brilliant graphic designers who design our prints to fab fashion designers who ensure that our product flatters and feels comfortable. The best ideas often appear entirely at random – the name Yawn came from a talented designer who is on the team – the minute we heard it we knew it was right!
Oh, that is a tricky one as I get inspiration from many different sources. In business I always really admired what Anita Roddick achieved with The Body Shop and her ability to combine ethics with business. I think you have to know role models though, so on a day to day basis my family and friends provide me with inspiration in lots of different ways.
I have absolutely no idea. It would definitely need to be a British actress – shall we go for Emma Thompson?
Coming up with an idea for selling ‘messages in a bottle’ one holiday in Salcombe, Devon. We created rather a dinky little example to sell – not many did although we convinced the local ferryman to let us chuck them over the side… It didn’t catch on unfortunately but I had a romantic notion that many years later someone would find one and contact me from somewhere exotic!
A lot of life is about perseverance, determination and keeping cheerful when things get tough.
Any of your spa breaks sound heavenly but in reality at the moment my most relaxing times are spent with husband and my young children, just hanging out and enjoying laughing together.
I was extremely kind to myself last week and so owe lots of kindness to others this week – I was on holiday and was also given a massage for my birthday which was bliss. My next kindness to myself is likely to be buying a large bar of chocolate one evening and enjoying the next episode of the very brilliant Orange is the New Black.
