Now there are very few people who can produce a genuine giggle, but the girls in the Spabreaks.com product team are amongst them, so you can imagine how one must have glowed following a full weekend with them including good food, glorious surroundings and seriously scrummy facials at Menzies Welcombe.
Anyone who has a really good group of girlfriends will know what I am talking about when I say that sometimes all you need is a weekend with the girls. So that’s what we did.
Racing home after work on a Friday afternoon we jumped in the car and headed up to Stratford. The beautiful thing about Menzies Welcombe, aside from the historic red brick building and picturesque grounds, is that they have a series of apartments for visiting groups in addition to the more traditional hotel accommodation.
So we settled into our contemporary flat complete with kitchen and flat screen TV (three bedrooms each sleeping two), and did a quick change before heading out again for dinner in nearby town which is a mere five minutes away in a taxi.
For those who haven’t been, Stratford is as chocolate-box quaint as a town could possibly be – the buildings are historic and a little time spent wandering around the shops is highly recommended.
For us however, time was of the essence so following our dinner we returned to our apartment for tea before bed (yes, we are that cool) and a natter in our PJs, ready for a day of pampering when we woke up.
I make a habit of exploring the grounds at any new destination by going for a run in the morning, and I am seriously pleased I did here. In the cool morning sunlight before the rest of the world woke up, jogging around the edge of the grounds and golf course before popping into the spa for a swim was sheer bliss.
In contrast to the architecture of the main house, the spa is a predominantly glass design that has been incorporated into the wider structure. It is an incredibly peaceful environment filled with natural light.
All of that taken into consideration you can imagine that by the time we headed to breakfast I was feeling pretty relaxed about life and entirely ready for the buffet in the rather formal dining room.
The rest of the day was passed in pampered bliss – a walk around the grounds, a prescriptive facial each and a girly giggle over lunch.
The spa was impeccable, the accommodation was ideal, the location was beautiful. Importantly though, the binding feature, the company, was nothing short of exquisite…
