As a TV presenter with a hectic schedule, and also a practicing life coach and counsellor, I’m a huge fan of taking ‘me time’ – time out for yourself to recharge your batteries and gain some perspective away from the daily grind. You really can’t beat a few days of rest and relaxation, and for me, Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire is the perfect getaway.
An opulent impressive mansion set in beautiful grounds greets you when you meander up the estates grand driveway – it even has its own church. The spa hotel is a great mixture of traditional and modern design, and its current refurbishment is set to make the property even more swanky with a swish new boutique and wedding venue to boot.
I love this spa for many reasons, not least for the fabulously decadent bedrooms, which (if you’re lucky enough to be on the 3rd floor) boast a sitting room and roof terrace overlooking the unspoiled countryside. It all feels very ‘Downton’ – full of class and exactly what such a stay should promote, unreserved luxury and comfort.
The treatments are out of this world with the deep tissue massage and Geo Facial proving a must-have. I left feeling like I’d been through a feel-good machine, and it’s important to mention that all the staff are wonderfully polite and smiley – they clearly love their job – mind you, who wouldn’t love working in such a lovely place every day!
If you’re a fan of water you’re in for a treat, as there is every possible spa jet, sauna, steam room, and pool you could wish for. My personal favourite was the plunge pool, which left me momentarily speechless with cold, but also did me the power of good and made my body tingle for ages afterwards – it might not be for the faint hearted, but if you can stand the shock for 10 seconds, its so worth it.
I could rattle on forever, but suffice to say that with fabulous food, exercise classes and a nightly live pianist to serenade you through dinner, Hoar Cross Hall is a jewel in the crown of spas and the perfect way to kick start 2015!
