Once you get yourself into shape you really want to stay there. Fitness is the key to feeling healthier, having more energy, and feeling confident and strong – all things we want to maintain for as long as possible. So here are some of my top tips for getting and staying in shape!
It can be a 5k run, a half marathon, a marathon, a cycle ride, or even a Tough Mudder event. The pressure of a commitment and the motivation of sponsorship if you do it for charity, is a great driving force to help you get up and train. With any luck, the sense of achievement afterwards will hopefully inspire you to continue as well!
Make new friends, socialise, have fun and get fit and healthy at the same time. This could be anything from football, netball, to rowing or swimming – see what’s available in your area, or even start a team!
Being surrounded by health-conscious individuals and making new friends with like-minded goals is a great way to spur you on, especially on drizzly winter evenings.
Learn to train with the correct techniques and benefit from the additional support and motivation that a PT can provide. Investing in this will set you up to achieve health and fitness results in the long-term.
Buy and diary and log your weekly workouts. It’s motivating to see and gives you the competitive edge to keep progressing your fitness.
Far and away the best piece of advice I can offer however, is to find an activity you enjoy and fit it into your lifestyle. If you’re having fun then you’re much more likely to stick to it!
