Springtime is fast approaching and everything’s getting a bit of an ‘end of the year’ smell to it so we’re letting go of the shackles of winter by embracing a spring clean of ourselves and our music library.
Swedish trio NONONO are based in Stockholm but have made some pretty strong roots in my ears. The roots look a bit like headphones and are thoroughly attached to my iPod, but the sentiment remains.
When you listen to Pumpin’ Blood, which is the lead single from their debut album, happiness just courses through your veins, which is why I’ve picked it as the anthem for this month where Spabreaks.com is all about new beginnings – it’s tough to feel down about your life with upbeat rhythms and whistling in your ears.
You can hear this song being played in a film as a group of friends start their ‘big adventure’ montage, driving down the motorway while giggling behind sunglasses. Although we may never know what they were giggling at, we can join in their merriment.
The lead singer, Stina Wäppling, belts out “it’s your heart, it’s alive, it’s pumping blood”, which is not just a lesson in anatomy. It serves as a reminder that yes, sometimes life is a big difficult, but you’re alive and that is great. It’s enough to make you want to shake off whatever has been getting you down and wash it away along with the mouldy coffee cups of winter.
Despite the frankly negative name of the band, Pumpin’ Blood makes us want to shout “YESYESYES!” as we celebrate a fresh start
