Horse riding, cycling, tennis, golf and jogging routes abound at Penha Longa Resort – leisure isn’t just about sitting by the pool or having a massage in the spa, there are lots of things to do during the day that all point resoundingly towards total feel-good-factor.
To give you a proper idea of how impressive this is, you need to know that this hotel is located in the midst of a UNESCO World Heritage Natural Park. Your view encompasses hills, gardens and the lakes of the southern Sintra Mountains.
The hotel itself resembles a palazzo, and let’s be honest, on holiday we do generally want to feel like a total princess (or prince), so this setting really helps with that. I have visions of wafting through the corridors, singing in a manner akin to one of Disney’s finest.
While I mostly want to experience local cuisine when I go on holiday, one can’t help but appreciate the variety of food available here. Japanese, Portuguese and Italian are available, and for those wanting something a little closer to home, they do a mean burger as well.
Ultimately what I am looking for on holiday is a chance to relax, and both the treatments available in the spa, and the indoor and outdoor pools provide awesome places to unwind. My personal favourite is the outdoor pool however, for the purposes of sitting with a good book and enjoying that aforementioned sunshine. Don’t forget the SPF, and let us know which book you choose to take – we can swap notes.
