Spa Soundtrack: Workout Playlist from an Exercise-phobe

If one thing will motivate Spabreaks.com’s reluctant exerciser Zeina, it’s really good music. So helping us all to feel fit and fab this summer she explains why this is her ideal workout soundtrack…

music

When it comes to working out, something I am not necessarily that au fait with, few things get you as pumped and ready for a good old fashioned sweat, than appropriate music.

Historically, music has always been a constant in exercising, as Carl Foster points out, “you go all the way back to rowers on the Roman Galleys… The guy is sitting there beating on his drum and he drives the basic rhythm of the rowing”.

And he’s right, you know? Nothing keeps you more in time that a solid beat to follow. If you look at any given club in the land, it may not be pretty, but you’ll certainly see some party-goers working up a sweat as they bop along to the newest songs.

The other great thing about listening to music while exercising is to relieve any monotony. Ignore the fact that this is coming from someone whose idea of a physical training session is running down the stairs to pay the pizza guy, and just think about the last time you worked out – better or worse with some rhythm or lyrics to distract you? Exactly.

To that end, I’ve carefully curated a playlist with positive beats to encourage the sweat to pour out and have its very own dance party on your skin while you get fit and healthy for the summer!
