I love this book. If I am completely honest I started reading it when stress meant that I was at my all time lowest weight and though I had tried to read lot of this kind of book, none of them were as realistic as Charlotte’s.
What I really liked is that she gets straight to the point and helps the reader to realise that life isn’t all about living in a bubble; sometimes life doesn’t go the way we planned! Her advice is realistic without the added pressure of telling you to ‘snap out of it’ straight away, it’s all about finding what works best for you and taking your time to do it.
I wasn’t under the impression that I was that stressed when I started reading, and that was the reason why I pretty much stopped eating all together, but I suddenly found myself relating to all the signs of stress which helped me realise that I need to do something about it.
Charlotte highlights the different types of stress, types I wasn’t even aware of, and explains how you can avoid them, giving specific examples of ways that you can change your diet and lifestyle with a focus on mindful eating. The diet plans really helped me get my appetite back, which in turn helped with my sleep patterns and mood swings.
For me The De-Stress Effect is about both preventing stress and understanding how we as individuals deal with it, there is no right or wrong answer.
So in short, I would 100% recommend this book as I think everyone can relate to it in their own way. It’s also really easy to read which helps when you are stressed and can’t even think straight!
Now my appetite is back and I am learning to not to overthink things while trying to keep a healthy balanced life, and when I need to I go back to the book every now and again, just to ensure I am on the right track.
