“I set out to volunteer at a mindfulness based recovery centre in Thailand for a month, but ended up there for more than three months. I went to learn about mindfulness and help other people with addiction issues and elements of depression, anxiety and burnout, but in hindsight I probably had the beginnings of burnout myself and I became a resident after a while to look at why I had become so stressed.
On multiple occasions I felt like I had to relearn how to ‘be’, like I had been doing everything wrong for 30 years. I think what I really learned… that you don’t have to do everything at once.”
