Working with Michelle Hammond, Director of Education at the Spa Business School, Spabreaks.com Co-Founder Abi Wright has joined a board of industry experts aiming to eradicate the challenges facing spa therapists who treat clients with cancer in spas, salons and clubs across the UK.

nhs cancer recovery

Spabreaks.com revolutionized the spa world when it created the industry first Recovery Retreats; spa days and breaks for anyone with or recovering from cancer in 2011.

This work has been instrumental in driving wider change in the spa industry, and now she and other industry leaders have been brought together by Hammond in a collaborative non-for-profit TPOT (The Power of Touch) to make all therapists in the UK cancer aware before the end of 2018.

Their objectives will be set out in three sessions launching on 3rd November including eradicating the challenges of treating clients with cancer, understanding cancer and how it impacts the individual, and dispelling the myths: what is practical, possible and beneficial for treating clients with cancer.

Abi Wright says: “this is a matter very dear to my heart and to the founding principles of Spabreaks.com which has worked hard to make spas accessible for all since its formation in 2008. The development of TPOT is an exciting and significant move, which looks to change dated industry fears and attitudes permanently. It all hinges on education that the spas and clients have been crying out for, and we are aiming to make that knowledge accessible for the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all involved in spa treatments.”
