As we get ready for all those Christmas parties our make-up artist guru Emma Hales gives her guide to perfect primer and gorgeous eyeshadows to make you sparkle!
Christmas is right around the corner which means the festive nights out are already starting. Why not try something different that brings all attention to the eyes with a smokey green eye and a sparkle of gold. It’s easy and glamorous and suitable for all eye colours in the winter season.
PREPARATION
I am using my favourite cheap and cheerful Nivea moisturiser for dry and damaged skin to keep my face moisturised in this cold weather.
This is also an all over body cream, so it’s great for your skin from head to toe! Make sure you moisturise your face at least half an hour before you apply foundation.
PRIMER
Primer will create a smooth surface for foundation and keeps make-up in peak condition all night. Today I am using Prep and Prime by MAC. This primer calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, and evens lines out skin redness.
FOUNDATION
Since discovering Superdrug. B. Youthful Anti-Ageing Foundation a couple of months ago it has become one of my favourite highstreet brands. The anti-ageing foundation is soft and moisturising which helps my skin in the cold months. Using a foundation brush apply all over your face and blend in until you are happy with the finish.
BRONZER
I am using Rimmel Natural Bronzing Powder – Sun Glow 25. If your skin is light, reach for a pink-based highlighter, while medium- to dark-skinned women should try golden tones. For my blusher I am using colour Dolly Mix from MAC blush range.
EYESHADOW
Smoky eyes are good enough to give you a different look. They are seductive and extremely appealing. You can experiment with shadows colours at Christmas. BI am using a forrest green as the base, I apply this all over the eyelid, then with a darker shade of green i work into the crease and under the eye. To finish I am using a metallic bronze shadow, applying from the inner corner of the lid to the middle of the lid. Shimmer eye shadows are perfect for the Christmas look.
EYELINER
Black liner swept across the top lid makes a bold yet elegant statement. Using a liquid black eyeliner, line the outer upper lid. Close the eye and, starting at the inner corner, move the line outward and wing it slightly at the end. If you have trouble holding your hand steady, create little dashes along the lash line and go back and connect them. Take your time.
EYEBROWS
With a smokey eye, it is better to define a strong eyebrow to frame the eyes. I am using a Rimmel eyebrow pencil. Make sure your pencil is sharp so you can create clean lines.
LIPS
Keeping in with the whole look I am going to use a warm tone on my lips. I am using Maybelline Color Sensation Lipstick 540 Hollywood Red. This lipstick feels creamy and is enriched with honey nectar.
Have a great Christmas everyone!
