The idea behind OutOfOffice.com is to provide exciting and inspiring ideas for travel dedicated and tailor-made for the gay community. It is still particularly difficult for LGBT travellers to visit certain countries and even in the most tolerant of societies it’s possible to encounter serious prejudice. We’ve set about creating over 100 sample itineraries to over 35 different countries, all built from the ground up with gay people in mind. What that means is that all the hotels and suppliers we use are gay friendly and we’ve gone above and beyond to seek out the very best properties. We’ve got holidays as adventurous as snowmobiling under the Northern Lights to a wildlife cruise around the Galapagos and whilst we’re built with gay people in mind, all of our trips are open to everyone – and in fact, we reckon they’re better than the mainstream in many cases.
I remember going on holiday to Egypt with my partner several years ago and spent weeks researching where was safe to stay, what we should do and what the customs were. If I could have called someone and asked for their advice and booked it with them it would have made the process so much simpler. But until now there hasn’t been a service like that and any gay travel agents that went before were all fairly hedonistic – that’s not the kind of holiday most people want to go on.
It’s off the scale. It’s been several months in the making and I wasn’t prepared to launch the brand until we’d done thorough research and made sure we were working with the right suppliers and offering the right products. I’m confident in what we’ve created and that in turn it makes me very excited about what we’re hoping to achieve. We are looking to transform and revolutionise travel for the gay market whilst making it clear we are open to everyone. There are many exciting times (and holidays!) ahead.
It depends on who I’m travelling with. If it’s with a significant other it’s to a white sand beach with crystal blue waters for some ultimate relaxation and pampering. I love massages and so anywhere with a spa is a must. I also love a bit of an explore and to see the cultural side of a place too. Then if I’m going away with friends I tend to opt for places like Mykonos and other hidden gems in the Greek Islands – many of which we’re showcasing on Out Of Office – or to huddle up in a cottage somewhere with friends for a cosy weekend.
Branson Branson Branson. I mean it’s the obvious answer, I know and it sounds uninspired but it’s not and I’ve thought about it long and hard. But what he’s achieved is nothing short of miraculous and the way he is still the face of his brands and involved on a daily basis is simply inspiring.
My list is extensive… I want to go on our Galapagos Cruise and I’m desperate to see the Northern Lights again. Last time I saw them in Iceland but it wasn’t ideal conditions. I want to go to Tromsoe and snowmobile and go husky sledding. That and a South African safari… Depends if the boss will give me time off!
