EFT or the Emotional Freedom Technique is a very gentle way for people to release the negativity in their body as well as their minds. It sounds a little bit ‘out there’ but it works like acupuncture; using meridian points. You tap on the meridian points to release energy. It can be used for something really simple, like you’re cross because you can’t find your keys and you can release that energy – it’s something you can learn and eventually do for yourself.
You can also then put in alternative positives after you have reduced the negatives; there are different ways of practicing it. Some therapists don’t want to hear client stories at all, but others do. You can disassociate people from particular traumas and it’s particularly good for phobias. EFT Tapping is brilliant for relieving any kind of anxiety and discomfort; it’s very good for pregnant women who are concerned about going into labour.
It’s not compulsory, but it helps if people believe it will work and are open to doing something about any feelings or problems they have. If people don’t want to do anything about behaviour patterns and the identity they have created around them, then it’s very difficult to change that with anything.
Yes, it’s something you can learn to do yourself, but to start with it’s best to find someone who is trained in order to really understand it.
