If you’ve ever tried squats and thought they were hard work then you’re in for one hell of a ride with the latest trend to hit the world of fitness, Aquabase.

Take one inflatable paddle board, one swimming pool, a seriously peppy instructor and a routine of burpees, lunges, and planks, and you have an exercise class designed to up your cardio and give your backside a workout like it’s never seen before.

Low impact, high energy training

Described as a low impact cross training exercise on water, aquabase is a high-energy variation on other recent trends for SUP (Stand Up Paddle board) yoga and Pilates, all of which really enhance your core strength, as you can imagine.

Where to try aquabase

Created by UK based company Aquaphysical and now available at the spa at Dolphin Square in London, aquabase is a refreshing twist on your average aerobics class thanks to using an unstable platform, which taps into engaging your core for stability and also challenges your balance.  Plus, it’s something you can do with friends, and you kind of have to have a bit of a sense of humour, at least at the beginning so it’s good for mind, body and soul.

How to use aquabase

Fans of the routine recommend it as a weekly addition to your regular workout rather than a replacement because of its ability to enhance fitness and strength training rather than being a complete workout for the whole body.  Of course to really get the most out of it, it should be combined with good nutrition and a healthy diet.
