I love that there are 90 acres of gardens to run and play around in and in the summer, I even have some duck friends to play with… that’s my favourite time! Ellenborough has a fantastic pool which often enters my dreams during naptimes under the gazebo after frolicking in the fields… the water looks so inviting, but of course, my owner doesn’t allow me near the pool! Spoil sport! At Ellenborough I have a huge family; the friendly, welcoming team spoil me rotten and treated me like one of the team as soon as I arrived! Sometimes I like to tease them by hiding in the tall stems of the daffodils in spring… I never last too long though as the heavenly scents from the kitchen always tempt me out in the hope that Chef might leave a little something out for me!
Alongside all of the humans, I have so many dog friends! They love to come and visit and try to get away once or twice a year for a holiday! There is so much for them to do here and when I make a new friend, I love giving them the guided tour. As my furry companions are welcome all year round, there is so much to highlight so I always recommend that they try to visit in all seasons…. Playing with the fallen leaves in autumn is such fun, and lazing beneath the shade of the trees during the warmer months is such luxury!
When my friends come to stay they mostly stay in Ellenborough Gate, which overlooks the gardens, and some of them even have fantastic views of the racecourse. A lot of these dog-friendly rooms have terraces which is great for my pals as they often like to chill outside and take in the views! We are also so lucky in that we have 90 acres of grounds here – anyone would think it was purpose-built for a dog! I love going for a run around the fields and getting to explore the Cotswolds. We are situated at the foot of Cleeve Hill so my owner often grabs a pair of Dubarry boots or Hunter Wellingtons from the hotel boot room and takes me out to discover the surrounding hills!
The food is most definitely worth an attempted-steal when dining with our owners on The Terrace. You have to be lucky enough though as it is so delicious that most guests leave with full tummies and empty plates on their table! I think one of my favourites is the Sunday lunch… the aromas of the roast meat escaping the kitchens is divine.
There is so much to do here that guests want to do everything. We have a lovely spa with seven treatment rooms so our fantastic spa team are often very busy giving treatments to guests or for non-residents who have booked in. Our outdoor heated pool is open all year round in daylight hours so this is very popular too, especially being heated. You get to see guests enjoying the pool when there is a chill in the air but the water is still warm! Having 90 acres of gardens and the location we are in, you often find that people travel far and wide to take advantage of our complimentary boots and jackets from the boot room and use us as a base for exploring what the Cotswolds has to offer. We also have a brilliant award-winning Executive Head Chef, David Kelman, renowned amongst hotels in Cheltenham for his championing of the Cotswold larder in his menus, for The Brasserie and 3 AA Rosette Beaufort Dining Room.
I would highly recommend a run on the South Lawns… this is my favourite thing to do. I love going into the Boot Room with my owner while he boots up to take me out for a run in the fresh air! After a long workout I often like to head back to my room to the cosy canine corner where I can relax with some fresh water and food on top of my blanket… all provided by the hotel! If I’m feeling like some company, then I head into the reception area or atrium with my owners where I join them while they enjoy drinks, lunch or afternoon tea.
We have such a full calendar this summer that I can’t wait to be involved! Cheltenham has so many festivals which I know Ellenborough Park are either supporting or working with. I’m hoping that my owner will take me out to Montpellier to visit Chef, who will be running a food stand there selling afternoon tea cakes etc.
There are so many fantastic things that I’m not sure I could pick just one so here are a few on my list which I would suggest. Try the afternoon tea, take a dip in the pool, enjoy a cocktail in The Brasserie – Matt is very creative and has developed our cocktail menu, take a walk out and discover the Cotswolds beauty, take your family out to Sudeley Castle, and of course, don’t forget to come and say hi to me! (I also love bones)!
