With a view of the London skyline from the roof terrace, this isn’t the London experience that involves the Underground and commuter trains, this is the London that’s cocktails, facials, and feeling like royalty…
The hotel is five star all the way, and you really feel that as you walk through the doors. From the award-winning restaurant to the views of the city from the terrace, The Courthouse Hotel is a tough one to beat.
The hotel is in a Grade II listed former magistrate’s court (the clue’s in the name on this one really). So inside, the hotel is a fusion of contemporary design mixed with original features, which give it a real sense of everything that London’s about – lots of history, an exciting present and a buzzing future. It is five star, and the luxury shines through at every turn with 116 rooms and suites and service that prides itself on its intuitive nature.
The Sanook Spa continues the five-star treatment and, happily, the name means ‘enjoy yourself’ in Thai. The space is small and indulgent with a pool, gym and sauna in terms of facilities – ideally positioned to wind down after a day exploring the city. The treatments are a particular pleasure here, using the La Sultane de Saba product line which, as the name suggests, is fit for a king.
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant and bar, but the lunch is in the Carnaby Brasserie, which is opposite the street that is its namesake. The area has that wonderful vibe that Carnaby Street and Soho do so well – a hum of creativity and West End drama. Meanwhile, the Silk Restaurant is where dinner is served in an elegant dining space that is the culinary and architectural focal point of the hotel. It has a spectacular glass vaulted ceiling framed in English Oak, and retains the original judge’s bench, dock and witness stand where it witnessed the trials of Oscar Wilde, Mick Jagger and John Lennon. The Bar is also a unique setting located just off the lobby; a trendy lounge, it features the original prison cell blocks which can be booked as cosy VIP rooms.
Close to all the greatest assets London has to offer, The Courthouse Hotel is in beautiful Mayfair in close proximity to the West End, creative Carnaby Street, Oxford Street and all the bits in between. You can walk just about anywhere, and then escape at the end of the day to the sanctuary of the hotel.
For anyone looking for a decadent city break with easy access to everything London has to offer, this is ideal. It’s wonderful for a girly break for a couple of good friends, or a romantic getaway exploring one of the most diverse cities in the world. The history adds another dimension to the experience, while the modern attributes make it an all singing, all dancing 21st century experience.
