Pronounced ‘chi’, Qi is a principle of Chinese philosophy. It basically means ‘breath’, but can also be used to describe ‘life force’ or ‘spiritual energy’. Coined centuries ago, it’s also a key element in Chinese healing and wellness traditions.
Chinese medicine is based on the idea that body has natural patterns of qi that circulate in specific channels or paths, called meridians. The concept of qi has also migrated to the spa world; Qi Facials, for example, aim to rejuvenate the skin and tighten muscle tone using herbal ingredients and targeted massage techniques.
Leading on from Qi, Qi Gong is a group of Chinese self-healing exercises that combine simple movement, breathing, and mental imagery to relax and strengthen the mind and body.
