Trek to Peru for the Florence Nightingale Hospice

Spabreaks.com’s Marketing Manager Vicky set of on a Trek to Peru last week in aid of the Florence Nightingale Hospice.

Last year Vicky launched her blog Living with Mumma following the journey of her mother’s cancer diagnosis.

A year on, in memory of her mother and supporting the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity that cared for her, Vicky is doing a trek in Peru to contribute towards £650,000 of vital funds they rely on each year.

“I had always talked to my Mum about going to Peru,” says Vicky “and when we saw this charity challenge at the hospice it was a sign.” In her own words Vicky describes the work of the hospice team on her Justgiving page, saying: “as some of you may have been aware my beautiful Mum sadly passed away on 14th November 2015. In her last few weeks she was cared for by the amazing staff and volunteers at the Florence Nightingale Hospice. Words cannot express how amazing they are and how much they made Mum’s last few weeks comfortable, and how they helped support our family.

About the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity

The charity in Aylesbury relies on staff, volunteers, donors and supporters, and their goal is to provide comprehensive care and support, through inpatient and at-home services, for local people and families affected by life-limiting illness. It is a local charity and it relies on the generosity of donations in order to keep its work going.

Shortly after her mother passed away, Vicky wrote on her blog: “I have signed up for a Peru Trek to raise money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice who cared for mum so dearly in her last few weeks. It’s a goal, something to work towards and something positive to look forward after a year of, let’s face it, sh*t!”

“I have learnt there is no manual for grief and you really can only take one day at a time. I just want to be able to talk about Mumma without sadness coming over me, and talk about her and for a smile to appear on my face just because she was so special.”

Fundraising for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity

So, last week Spabreaks.com proudly saw Vicky head off on her adventure, having already raised £3,714.00 of the £3,860 pledged, and we can’t wait to see the pictures.
