I join Elemental Herbology just over 18 months ago, having been in the industry for 20 years, starting as a therapist. Two years ago I decided that I needed something different and joined Elemental Herbology with its strong basis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. My background is aromatherapy and I believe in balance in life. It’s not just about something on your skin, it’s about lifestyle, moderation, laughter and enjoyment.
It focuses on the five elements and the seasons. We are all made up of the five elements, and those change in balance according to the season, your lifestyle, and your hormones. I look at my skincare routine very differently now. I think about what my skin feels like it needs, and I look at it closely in the mirror. You can use the same cleanser for years but sometimes it’s shouting out for something different. It’s important to notice changes in your skin and alter your routine accordingly.
The other thing is that all our products are packed with ultimate nutrition. Sacha Inchi oil for example is incredibly high in omegas and essential fatty acids, and the effect on the skin is fantastic. Kombucha, a fermented tea which most people eat, as it’s great for the gut, is also a powerful ingredient for the skin too.
We also tie in seasonal foods. I still say to friends, don’t buy something with an aeroplane on it, it’s not local and it’s not fresh. We use patented actives, and products have to have the right amounts for them to work. We can then confidently say you will see a percentage increase in radiance to the skin.
Our seasonal approach. We look at you as an individual and in our spa partners encourage the use of a five element lifestyle consultation. This is a short questionnaire that looks at your lifestyle, likes and dislikes and defines what element you’re in and what you need right now.
We also know that our clients are real people with real lives, so you can’t have unrealistic expectations about their skincare routines because it’s not always possible. Somewhere like Ockenden Manor will work with us on an approach that’s about health but without being holier than thou – you can have your grapes and chocolate at the same time.
The Cell Nourish Radiance and Vitality Serum. It was one of the first products that we launched, it’s filled with superfood ingredients and it’s like a morning juice for your skin. The effect is phenomenal.
My favourite treatment is the Five Element Aroma because not only do you feel like your muscles are massaged, but you also feel like the body has been brought back into balance as it works face to feet. It’s 90 minutes long and you come out feeling completely refreshed.
We have our Five Element Oils that are being developed and launched in the first quarter of next year. They can be used in the bath and as a massage oil, and will be launched individually. Then from partnerships, we’re looking to work with more spas in the UK. We already have a well-established relationship with Penny Hill Park and haven recently launched as the sole brand at Ockenden Manor.
It’s still very much about making sure you feed your skin with what it needs. We have a Facial Soufflé which can be a mask as well as a nightly moisturiser, and it’s great for skin that lacks hydration. Continue to exfoliate and use masks as well particularly those that are high in fatty acids and moisture.
