Named the Best Spa in Ulster at the 2016 Irish Tatler Awards, Lough Eske Castle’s Yon-ka Secret de Douceur body experience got a special mention from the judges for being “a blissed out, three-hour, head-to-toe affair using essential oils to relax and restore the body and mind.” We wanted to know more…

Lough Eske

What is the treatment?

The Secret De Douceur, is a three-hour head-to-toe reviver package. It includes both face and body treatments.

Three hours is a long time, is there a risk of getting bored?

Absolutely not, the three hours allows you to work from the guest’s head to their toes, this beautiful treatment envelops the body into a state of relaxation.

What does it include?

The treatment includes a full body exfoliation followed by a full body aromatherapy massage, a beautiful hydrating facial and a hand and foot treatment.

What’s it supposed to do?

It is a real VIP treatment in a soothing atmosphere of essential oils lavender, sage and petitgrain. It promotes relaxation and wellbeing and helps in the elimination of fatigue.

Where has it come from?

It comes from a premium all natural skincare line, specialising in a comprehensive range of aromatherapy, phytotherapy, marine and fruit therapy based face and body products and treatments called Yon-Ka Paris. While Yon-Ka Paris has 22 signature spa treatments, the focus of these treatments is always on luxurious relaxation therapies that reflect a harmonious spa ambience.

Yon-Ka was created in 1957 by two brothers, both botanists, who rejected the move to pharmaceuticals for skincare and who eventually perfected the stabilisation of essential oils in a water based emulsion. This allowed the inclusion of both essential oils and plant extracts in the same product, thus both treating and nourishing the targeted tissues.

Is there anything you’re supposed to do afterwards or before to get the most out of it?

The use of a steam room can be quite effective before the treatment as it softens the skin and allows the pores to open, this prepares the skin for exfoliation, once the skin is exfoliated the fabulous products can penetrate further into the skin for a more effective treatment.

After the treatment, we recommend that you relax in our relaxation lounge with a herbal tea and allow the body to restore itself back to its natural state. We would also recommend that you drink plenty of water for upto 12 hours after your treatment as your body will be in detox mode.

Is there anyone in particular you recommend it for?

No, all people of all ages can have this treatment, however it’s extremely effective for a stressed/ fatigued guest.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have it?

It is not recommended for a guest with allergies to essential oils.
