Surrounded by olive groves and offering five star service, what could possibly be more romantic than a spa break in a Chateau?

First impressions

Meander down winding lanes past vineyards and open countryside, and you will find Chateau De Berne in the Var Hinterlands. A five star hotel embracing the best of Provencal country chic and sophistication, it is the pinnacle of French style – grandeur and elegance combined, with just enough rustic style to make you feel cosy as well.

The hotel

Rooms are light and airy, the kind of stylish that’s not try hard or over the top, but just right for making you feel expensive and at ease at the same time, all the while looking out onto the surroundings in the heart of this beautiful wine region.

The spa

A lesson in decadence, the spa is a sensory experience combining the joys of the outdoor infinity pool and Cinq Mondes therapies with views from treatment cabins of the vines and olive trees. This is not the spa to go to if you’re looking to work out before you wind down; this is the spa for complete and utter indulgence and pampering.

The location

Chateau De Berne is 75 minutes from Nice Côte d’Azur airport, making it far enough away from civilisation that you really feel you are getting a break out of it, but close enough to the airport that you don’t need another holiday because of all the travel. Once there, the hotel is embraced by 500 hectares of grounds, including its own vineyard which sets the scene perfectly.

The restaurant

This is France, so naturally the food is good. The hotel is blessed with both a gourmet restaurant and a bistro, enjoying Neo classical decor, seasonal menus and of course an excellent wine cellar befitting the region to match.

The verdict

A five star experience that’s all about feeling special. France has a way of making you feel like a princess, and between the chateau, the olive groves, the beautiful spa treatments and the heady combination of food and wine, this is the place to come if you want to make someone feel loved.

Top tips

  • Savour the wine; this is the place to really enjoy it.
  • Wander around the grounds, they are nothing short of breathtaking.
  • Bring a partner, if anywhere is the place for falling in love, this is.
