Arriving at this contemporary hotel, the first thing you’re struck by is the sheer amount of space. From the elaborate entrance hall with its large chandelier to the rooms with their spectacular views across the grounds. Ours had a particularly good view as it was located on the fourth floor. I was perfectly happy lounging about in our room particularly in the Jacuzzi bath, and I was struck by the design in the public areas which had just the right amount of tradition about it.
The food was excellent. It was fresh, perfectly cooked and creatively presented. The restaurant is relatively formal, which is a nice excuse to dress up a little, and the staff are wonderfully helpful and pleasant. The live music in the restaurant, in the form of a low-volume acoustic guitar accompanied by a singer, was a lovely addition. That really added to the ambience and they have an excellent wine selection.
Despite being in an essentially suburban location, the surrounding golf course gives the impression of being somewhere more rural, which adds to the relaxed feeling with charming views of the countryside from the upper floors. It’s also very convenient to get to on the Dublin Road just outside Trim, with a large, legible ‘Knightsbrook’ stone arch at the main road entrance.
I should point out before anything else that my mini facial was perfect. My therapist asked extensive questions about my skin and tailored the treatment accordingly – I loved it! The spa itself is all decorated nicely and is welcoming and comfortable. It’s modern and very well maintained with a thermal area and a swimming pool. It’s worth noting that children are allowed in the pool and there are children’s swimming lessons periodically so it’s a good idea to check the timetables before you head in. The spa itself is clearly popular, but they managed the timings so that despite being fully booked it never felt crowded.
The Knightsbrook is a really lovely spa venues to go with the family or a group of friends. It’s welcoming and comfortable and very easy to enjoy without being overly elaborate and the staff are really charming which is always an excellent touch.
