Ever popular, this boutique hotel and its contemporary spa in the interconnected old coaching inn, needed extra space, and so transformed an upstairs meeting room into three new spacious treatment rooms and a relaxation area.
The existing rooms were all named after local birds in West Sussex as the hotel sits in the gateway to the Downs. So the theme was continued to the new rooms with Lapwing, Skylark and Linnet joined by Eider, Plover and Whimbrel, and the new relaxation room simply dubbed The Nest.
Crucially, the relaxation space gives you a proper area to snooze post treatment, which really extends the experience. The high ceilings which display the original beams reflect the style in the swimming pool area – a Scandi-style vault ceiling with soft lighting. In this new space the spa has also partnered with John Holman Therapy Solutions to offer their range of Hydrotherm treatments, carried out on heated water beds.
The training provided by John and his team will enable the spa to be recognised as ‘cancer friendly’. Therapists will be trained in how and when they can offer treatments to clients undergoing treatment for cancer or for those in remission.
Before now, Spread Eagle has never had a signature treatment, so the new developments were an opportunity to work closely with Temple Spa on creating something exclusive. Bringing in the theme of the surrounding South Downs and the warm, embracing welcome of the hotel, the South Downs Soother is a 90 minute treatment taking influence from the countryside, nature, hiking in the fresh air, and coming back and feeling loved at the spa.
It starts with a cup of Camellia’s Tea House tea (designed specifically for Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa), and sumptuous foot bath. After a consultation you then have a detoxifying body brush using a lovely zesty scrub called It’s a Wonderful Life.
That’s followed by a deeply soothing mud wrap using Temple Spa’s Glorious Mud, and while you’re cocooned in that, you have a blissful Trufflesque facial – it’s power-packed with anti ageing ingredients and contains black summer truffles, gold and silk peptides and a fruit and amino acid cocktail. After the facial you have a heavenly foot scrub which incorporates reflexology and massage using Temple Spa’s Duvet lotion which is like a hug for the body. The treatment finishes with a tea or a glass of fizz in the relaxation room as well as a snooze with your own Forty Winks Eye Mask, which you can take home!
