My daughter always wants to come with me when I have a work trip in Ireland, and she’s never been able to come before, so on this occasion, as it was in the school holidays, she joined me. It was the perfect mini break for us.
“It was the perfect mini break for us”
First of all, it’s perfect for a short getaway because it’s a quick flight from the UK and easy access from the airport and Dublin. We didn’t have particularly good weather while we were there but we took wellies and waterproofs and it was absolutely beautiful, so on a hot summer’s day on the coastline it would be incredible. Betsy collected shells on the beach, my boyfriend played golf on the pristine new course, and I had a wonderful massage.
I particularly liked the fact that the hotel had lots of different areas to have dinner in. There is a dedicated space for cream tea, a formal dining area for silver service, or there’s the sports bar with a kids menu which was very relaxed and had a really nice feel. We never felt as though we needed more.
The spa was lovely. There wasn’t a pool when I visited as it had only just opened, but it’s really clean, the treatment rooms were lovely as was the area where we had the manicures and pedicures, and there’s a delightful relaxation room where they serve herbal teas.
“Just to sit and look out at the sea and the golf course was a breathtaking”
The location is fabulous. There are amazing views and just to sit and look out at the sea and the golf course was a breathtaking. Going to Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links is proof that you don’t need to go on a four hour flight to get away somewhere nice. It’s an easy journey and you feel like you’re escaping somewhere really special.
My top tip would be to remember to pack for all weathers because it is on the coast. Take some walking boots for nice walks and a mac in case of rain, and enjoy everything there is on offer!
